Kenya Stakeholder Form
Project Description
We are initiating a local stakeholder consultation of our project: “Kuza Miti” in Kenya. The objective of the project is to generate carbon credits from afforestation activity in line with VERRA standards and methodologies (www.verra.org).
Verra is a global leader, with major recognition internationally, helping to tackle the world´s most intractable environmental and social challenges by developing and managing standards that help the private sector, countries, and civil society achieve ambitious sustainable development and climate action goals. Verra catalyzes measurable climate action and sustainable development outcomes by driving large-scale investment in activities that reduce emissions, improve livelihoods and protect nature.
Verra is having under consideration our project for carbon credits.
This project is designed to sequester carbon by implementing afforestation and reforestation activities in degraded areas with native and fruit trees, thereby contributing to the mitigation of climate change. This initiative is based in Kenya and holds the dual purpose of promoting local development and education.
The initial phases of this project are situated in Baringo, Laikipia, Meru, and Nyeri with more locations to be added, with an ambitious target to plant more than 10 million trees across thousands of hectares. The selection of tree species includes both native and other varieties specifically chosen for fruit and nut production. The forest management will not consider harvesting activities.
The project will start with two project instances belonging to Tambuzi and Flamingo. The project is conceived as a comprehensive landscape endeavor, extending beyond traditional forestry into a combination of diverse activities. The project also seeks to establish a social platform in Kenya while engaging in an economically attractive approach. It envisions having a blueprint that can serve as a showcase for the broader initiative, emphasizing the importance of scalability in these efforts.
